Ditch of Life is Full of Hats

Image

(Dedicated to Frank who said: “Start up the music of spheres and there in
space we will cavort where nothing impedes…. “…….Here’s my hat off to you Frank, I know you’re up there someplace, still smiling~   still amazing! )

Me in a ragged gingham dress
You in patched blue-green pants
Dancing in the haze of the Dogwood Cafe
In a place called nowhere just past Dog Patch
We wear our hats like king and queen
Dancing cheek to cheek
We bow and reach
We bow and reach so deep and long
So deep and long
Dancing cheek to cheek
To the flowing music strong
Twirl to make another switch
Then with a flourish throw
To take another hat from the ditch
The ditch of life is filled with hats
Furry fox red round top or trilby
Panama or porkpie
Fedora or fez
Beanie or boonie or baseball
Balmoral or beret
Take a different hat so tall
The ditch of life is full of hats
That ditch of life we run in fun
In fun without a hitch
As eternal children wise
Fastened with flowers and fruit
Or flowing with colored scarfs
Or crazy character ties
We wear our hats with grace
Children of ten thousand suns
Along blue-green earthly ways
Shining upon our inner heaven’s door
Me in a ragged gingham dress
You in patched blue-green pants encore
Dancing in the haze of the Dogwood Cafe
In a place called nowhere
Just past Dog Patch
